‘Conjugal Rites’ to open Oldbury Rep’s new season

AN AMUSING and insightful look at marriage – staring a real-life married couple – will kick off Oldbury Rep’s new season of shows.

Popular comedy ‘Conjugal Rites’ comes to the Spring Walk stage between Saturday, September 8, and September 15 and focuses on a middle aged couple, in whose relationship it is possible to see most of the agony and the ecstasy of marriage.

It follows Barry, a dentist, and his wife Gen – who are about to celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary – showing them discussing their marriage, their grown-up children and their work, while many unexpected revelations are uncovered during the course of the play.

Conjugal Rites was first performed at the Watford Palace Theatre in 1991, starring Nicky Henson and Gwen Taylor before it was adapted as a sit-com for ITV – running for 13 episodes over two series in 1993 and 1994, starring Nicky Henson and Gwen Taylor.

But Oldbury Rep’s production will feature real-life married couple Sally and Andy Worley in the roles of Gen and Barry, running each night at 7.30pm in the main house.

Tickets are priced at £11 for adults (£9 on Monday and Tuesday evenings) and £10 for concessions and are available from the box office by calling 0121 552 2761, online at www.oldburyrep.org.

They can also be bought in person from the box office on Monday evenings from 7.30pm and every night of the production from 7pm.
