The Link Academy to star in Channel 4’s ‘Sixteen: Class of 2021’

STUDENTS at the Link Academy in Netherton are set to feature in a new primetime Channel 4 documentary, hitting screens tonight.

‘Sixteen: Class of 2021’ follows pupils at the school as they juggle lockdowns, testing and exam chaos over the past year, as well as their experience of teenage life.

The school let the cameras in to document this unprecedented academic year as the youngsters tell in their own words their ambitions and optimism for the future.

It features a mix of filming in school and the student’s video diaries from home.

The series also highlights the significant amount of support that The Link Academy staff provides for its students.

Aaminah, the school’s head girl who features in the show, said: “In the future, people are going to write exam questions about us, to pinpoint what our lives were like”.

Alongside Aaminah, the programme features footballer Callum, best friends Sade and Kara and actress Grace.

Callum, a Year 11 student, said: “Most of my year eleven school life’s been sat at home working on a laptop which is the most unusual thing and not something I thought I’d ever be doing.”

Sade added: “This year’s been a mad year. My exams have been scrapped, I’ve been doing online lessons, and I’m trying to work out what to do with my life when they call us the Covid kids.”

‘Sixteen: Class of 2021’ is on Channel 4 on Thursdays at 9pm.
