Grand Theatre cancels Russian opera amid Ukraine crisis

WOLVERHAMPTON Grand Theatre has cancelled opera performances of Carmen and Madama Butterfly, which were due to run on Friday March 4 and Saturday March 5.

The cancellations follow the scrapping of performances by the Russian State Ballet which was due to open this evening (Monday February 28).

The decision to cancel in light of the ongoing situation in Ukraine “remains the right thing to do” – theatre bosses said.

A spokesman for the Grand Theatre added: “All customers will be given a full refund, however please do not contact the theatre, customers will receive a direct communication within the next seven days. Thoughts are with everyone during this time.”
