Running from August, the museum’s headline show will be Some Old, Some New, a major exhibition of work by internationally recognised glass artist Keith Cummings.
The exhibition, which opens on August 22 and runs until February 22, 2027, will bring together historic pieces and previously unseen work, charting the development of his long career.
A members-only preview is planned for Friday, August 21, followed by an artist talk by Cummings on the Saturday.
Alongside this, Endangered Crafts will run until November 7, highlighting traditional skills at risk of disappearing and the makers working to preserve them, supported by Heritage Crafts and the Contemporary Glass Society.
Visitors will also be able to watch live glassmaking on Saturday, August 22, as glassblower Allister Malcolm and his team turn winning children’s drawings from the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers National Doodle Competition into finished glass pieces.
A recycled glass and materials workshop with artist Terri Malcolm will explore more sustainable approaches to making.
The museum is working with Red House Glass Cone, Ruskin Glass Centre, Blowfish Glass Gallery and the General Office Gallery to offer exhibitions, a craft market, workshops, open studios and performances across the Stourbridge Glass Quarter during the August weekend.
Museum director Alexander Goodger said the programme aims to celebrate both Stourbridge’s glassmaking heritage and the creativity still active in the area today.
